Making healthier lifestyle choices is an important part of managing your kidney health. There are many ways you can manage your health and make better life. Lifestyle changes include:
- See a clinician to discuss which dietary and lifestyle changes might be best for you, and address any medical conditions.
- Get more physical activity. Talk to your healthcare team about an exercise program that works for you.
- Losing weight if you are overweight
- Cutting down on salt in your diet to control blood pressure
- Managing your blood sugar, especially if you have diabetes
- Avoiding NSAIDs, dietary supplements, or herbal remedies that might harm the kidneys
- Stopping smoking if you smoke
- Exercising and getting more physical activity
