Did you know that using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Health Informatics Infrastructure (ANDHII®) is free for all Academy members and CDR registrants?

While we know empirically that nutrition interventions can help prevent pressure injuries, falls and hospital readmissions, these associations can be difficult to prove. The data collected in electronic health records may help build support for the efficacy of nutrition interventions, but several obstacles stand in the way of collecting and aggregating this data. One barrier we face with our electronic health records is they do not use uniform nutrition terminology, making it difficult to document and track nutritional data in a meaningful way. While national efforts towards interoperability of electronic health records continue, it remains difficult to combine data from different practice settings.

ANDHII® can fill that gap! It offers a secure web portal for online data entry from anywhere, using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and NCP terminology (NCPT) in a format that makes it easy to integrate into practice workflow. For nephrology dietitians working in the dialysis setting and reviewing your patients monthly, this information can be easily entered using the drop-down menus for each step of the NCP. ANDHII offers the ability to graph patient data (e.g., lab results, weights) over multiple visits. By tracking patient progress, this will provide you with insight into the effectiveness of your nutrition interventions. ANDHII can also support research initiatives such as QI projects in the clinical setting.

The knowledge gained through the collection and analysis of information in ANDHII® and its Dietetic Outcomes Registry will add to the evidence base for nutrition practice and help ensure high-quality patient care.
