The office of the National Kidney Foundation President was established in 1964 and since then, our esteemed Presidents have guided the medical, scientific and public health matters of the Foundation. Over the years, NKF Presidents have been instrumental in the following: passage of key legislation affecting kidney patients; securing NIH funding for kidney research; initiating the publication of a NKF peer-reviewed scientific journal, American Journal of Kidney Diseases; creating partnerships among the major kidney organization; establishment of the multidisciplinary Spring Clinical Meetings; the endowment of a NKF research fund; and facilitating NKF's development of groundbreaking clinical practice guidelines.
