About the Legacy Society

The National Kidney Foundation’s Legacy Society was founded to thank and honor those who have named us in their estate plans. A legacy gift allows you to create a future that represents your values and contribute to patients with kidney disease and their loved ones.

We are grateful to our Legacy Society members for their commitment to our shared goal: a world where no one ever dies while waiting for a kidney transplant.

Legacy Society FAQ

What language do I include in my will?

Here are some examples of specific language you can include in your will:

To leave a specific percentage, or dollar amount of your estate:

"I give and bequeath ___% (or sum of $___) of my estate to the National Kidney Foundation, (region and address) to be used for its general purposes."

You may also give a particular asset ("my shares of XYZ stock…") or a portion of the residue of your estate after other bequests have been paid ("50% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate…").

What is NKF’s Tax ID/EIN number?

To make your gift, contact your estate planner and if needed, provide them with our Tax ID number: 13-1673104.

Legal name: National Kidney Foundation, Inc.

Address: 30 East 33rd, New York, NY 10016

How will my gift have an impact?

Depending how you would like to designate your funds, you can have an impact on local and national programs, patients, and research etc. that work directly to impact kidney health.

We'd love to share an impact report with you, if you reach out to us. Your funds help us with new actions and new solutions, and so many more, each year.

What if I’ve already written my will or trust?

You can amend a will or trust to make a gift without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new gift to The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) while reaffirming the other terms of your will.

There are many different types of trusts that can serve a variety of purposes. The advice of an attorney and qualified financial planner is necessary to assess your situation and decide which trust might best serve your goals.

What are the benefits to giving through Charitable IRA Rollover?

Avoid paying tax on your gift and all, or part, of your minimum distribution requirement.

Enjoy a quick and easy estate tax reduction.

Who qualifies for Charitable IRA Rollover and what accounts can I transfer from?

If you are 70.5 or older, giving from your IRA can help reduce your taxable income — and for those over 73 who must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), an IRA gift is a simple way to fulfill it! By using the link below to give from your IRA, you can auto-complete your paperwork and we can track your gift to send you the proper tax receipts.

Woman who provided testimonial, smiling

Inge Z.

“I can think of no better way to commemorate his life and the work my husband loved than by making a planned gift to the National Kidney Foundation. This gift is designated to educate clinicians, patients and families about peritoneal dialysis. It will help ensure that peritoneal dialysis remains on the table and in discussion as a viable option for dialysis patients.”

Man who provided testimonial, smiling

Fred C.

“I became aware of kidney organ donation through my partner’s kidney disease. I knew I had to include NKF in my will to leave a lasting gift for those facing the same diagnosis.”
