Matthew Cooper, M.D., is the Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at Medstar Georgetown Transplant Institute and Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Cooper is a decorated kidney transplant surgeon with 19 years of experience. He has directed three of the largest kidney transplant programs in the United States.

Dr. Cooper's work with the National Kidney Foundation is centered around improving the lives of people with chronic kidney disease and supporting the need for organ transplantation for those with end stage renal disease. "I believe my partnership with NKF provides a real opportunity to make significant changes to bring more people the gift of life, as there is a demonstrable, real investment in actions beyond words and a leadership that is committed to the mission," Dr. Cooper said. His goal is to help NKF increase kidney transplant opportunities. He hopes to accomplish this by supporting NKF efforts to encourage more individuals to become living donors and remove barriers that result in the discarding of deceased donor organs that might have been transplanted.
