Official Games Hotels

The following accommodations have been designated as official hotels of the NKF 2008 U.S. Transplant Games. Below is each hotel’s location, contact information and rates (all rates are subject to an additional 14% hotel tax that is subject to change):

Oakland Hotels

Games Registration and Housing will be open beginning in February, 2008. Reservations will not be accepted without a Room Deposit of one night's room rental plus tax for each room reserved. Room Deposits will be accepted in the form of a check made payable to: NKF/The Housing Connection, 90 South West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101; or a valid credit card with signature authorizing the credit card to be charged for the Room Deposit. Your individual hotel may choose not to charge a one night deposit but will still need your credit card number for guarantee and to enforce all cancellation fees. If the charge to the credit card is denied, we reserve the right to release your reservation.

Hotel Cancellations - Hotel cancellations will be subject to the following fees: Until March 15, 2008 - $25; After March 15th - $100. Hotel changes, including shortened stays and cancellations, may be made through the Games registration and housing system or submitted in writing by email to nkftransplantgames@housingregistration.com, fax 801-355-8019 or by mail to NKF/Housing, 90 South West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 until 5 PM CST on June 20, 2008.

Hotel cancellations made after June 20, 2008 must be made directly with the hotel. (Remember to record the date and time you called the hotel, the name of the person you spoke with and your cancellation number.) Failure to cancel your reservation with the hotel 72 hours or more prior to arrival may incur a charge by the hotel equal to the value of a two nights stay plus tax, per room. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Getting There

Pittsburgh is accessible from all parts of the United States via trains, planes and automobiles. Review the information below for your most convenient mode of travel.

By Plane – Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a world-class facility that accommodates more than 11 million travelers in nearly 270,000 aircraft operations per year. With about 290 non-stop flights per day to 80 destinations, Pittsburgh International Airport is served by 19 air carriers as well as being a US Airways focus city. PIT is located just 25 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. Discounts have been arranged with various airlines for travel to and from Pittsburgh. Certain restrictions may apply. Tickets may be purchased directly with each airline via the phone or at the airport for an additional ticketing charge of $15-$20.  (This amount is subject to change.) At the time of this printing, there was no ticketing fee for reservations made and ticketed through the airline’s Web sites.

By Train – The Pittsburgh Amtrak station (PGH) is located at 1100 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222; less than one mile from the Hilton Pittsburgh.

 By Car/Bus – Pittsburgh is accessible from interstates I-376, I-579 and I-279.  The Greyhound station is located at 900 2nd Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. Destination information, including driving directions, is accessible at the Visit Pittsburgh web site; www.visitpittsburgh.com

Ground Transfers

Pittsburgh International Airport is generally 25 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh. Expect traffic delays during rush hour. Average taxi fare from the airport to Downtown is $35-$45. Airport shuttle options are available at Express Shuttle USA 412-321-4990 with one way fare of $20. Most major credit cards accepted. The Express Shuttle USA service desk is located on the ground transportation level of Pittsburgh International Airport, near the rental car counters and baggage claim. It is identified by a large, lighted sign which reads, "Express Shuttle." The least expensive airport transportation is the Port Authority's 28x Airport Flyer (requires a transfer), which costs $2.25. The travel time is approximately 90 minutes. Parking

There are 17 public parking lots within a 15 minute walk of the David Lawrence Convention Center.  Parking is also available at the Hilton Pittsburgh hotel ($21.25-25.00 per day), Doubletree  ($18-23 per day), Marriott City Center ($16.50-23.00 per day), Renaissance Downtown ($10-23 per day), Courtyard ($10-23 per day), Holiday Inn Select ($17 per day), Quality Inn Oakland (free), Hampton Inn Downtown (free ). Rates are subject to change.

Games Shuttles

Attendees who register for the Games AND book their housing reservations through the Games Registration and Housing Bureau, will have full use of the Games shuttle service. Stops include the D. L. Convention Center, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh National and North Park Golf Courses, Schenley Park, Hilton Pittsburgh, participating Oakland Hotels, Downtown Hotels and other Games venues.

Venue Driving Directions

Directions to Carnegie Mellon University:

From the East

Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike West to Exit 57, Pittsburgh/Monroeville. Follow Interstate 376 West to Exit 7, Edgewood/Swissvale. Turn right onto Braddock Avenue (at the end of the ramp). Continue to the Forbes Avenue intersection. (Frick Park will be on the left). Turn left onto Forbes Avenue and follow Forbes Avenue approximately three miles to campus. Immediately at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Beeler Street, turn left into the parking garage on campus.

From the West/North

Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike east to Exit 28, Perry Highway. Follow Interstate 79 South to 279 South (Exit 72). Follow signs and go over the Fort Duquesne Bridge. Take 376 East to Exit 2A, Forbes Avenue/ Oakland. Stay in the right-hand lanes, following Forbes 1.3 miles through the Oakland business district to campus. Immediately at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Beeler Street, turn right into the parking garage on campus.

From the South

Take Interstate 79 North to 279 North (Pittsburgh). Follow 279 North toward Pittsburgh through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto the Fort Pitt Bridge. Once on the bridge, stay in the far right lanes and follow signs for 376 East/Monroeville. Take 376 East to Exit 2A, Forbes Avenue/ Oakland. Stay in the right-hand lanes, following Forbes 1.3 miles through the Oakland business district to campus. Immediately at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Beeler Street, turn right into the parking garage on campus.

Directions to Carnegie Science Center:

Route 22 - Monroeville, Murrysville

Take US Route 22 towards Interstate 376 West. Take Interstate 376 West to Exit 1A (Fort Duquesne Bridge-North Shore). Stay in the left lane on the Fort Duquesne Bridge, and get off at Exit 7A (North Shore). At the traffic signal at the bottom of the ramp, turn left onto Allegheny Ave. UPMC SportsWorks and Carnegie Science Center will be on your right, Heinz Field on your left.

Route 22 - From Star Lake, Weirton West Virginia

Take US Route 22 to Interstate 279 North towards Pittsburgh. Following the signs for North Shore, go through the Fort Pitt Tunnel, across the Fort Pitt Bridge, and across the Fort Duquesne Bridge, always staying in the far left lanes. At the end of the Fort Duquesne Bridge, take exit 7A (North Shore). At the end of the exit ramp, make a left at the light onto Allegheny Avenue. Carnegie Science Center and UPMC SportsWorks will be on your right, and Heinz Field will be on your left.

Route 28 - From Etna

Take PA Route 28 South, following signs for North Shore. Take the North Shore exit and keep going straight, staying in the center lane (you will pass PNC Park on your left). Ahead you will see a green overhead sign for Reedsdale Street. Drive under this sign. At the next traffic signal make a left onto Allegheny Avenue. UPMC SportsWorks and Carnegie Science Center will be on your right, Heinz Field on your left.

Route 51 - From McKees Rocks, Points North

Follow PA Route 51 South. Eventually, you will come to an area known as the West End Circle (you will be able to see the West End Bridge on the left). Follow the signs for Routes 19 & 65 and the West End Bridge (you need to go all the way around the West End Circle in a counterclockwise direction). While on the West End Bridge, stay in the right lane and take the North Shore exit at the end of the bridge. When the exit ramp splits, stay toward the right. Go straight through the first street light, UPMC SportsWorks will be on your left, Carnegie Science Center on your right, and Heinz Field straight ahead.

Route 51 - From South Hills, Uniontown

Take PA Route 51 North to the West End Bridge, following signs for North Shore. While on the West End Bridge, stay in the right lane and take the North Shore exit at the end of the bridge. When the exit ramp splits, stay toward the right. Go straight through the first street light, UPMC SportsWorks will be on your left, Carnegie Science Center on your right, and Heinz Field straight ahead.

Route 65 - From Sewickley, Ohio River Blvd

Follow PA Route 65 South. Follow the exit for North Shore. Go straight through the first street light. UPMC SportsWorks will be on your left, Carnegie Science Center on your right, and Heinz Field straight ahead.

Interstate 76 - From PA Turnpike Cranberry Exit 3

After exiting the turnpike, follow signs to Interstate 79. Follow Interstate 79 South to Interstate 279 South. Take Interstate 279 South to Exit 7A (North Shore). Stay straight through one street light, then move into the left lane. Ahead you will see a green overhead sign for Reedsdale Street. Drive under this sign. At the next traffic signal make a left onto Allegheny Avenue. Carnegie Science Center and UPMC SportsWorks will be on your right, and Heinz Field will be on your left.

Interstate 76 - From PA Turnpike Monroeville Exit 6

After exiting the turnpike, take Interstate 376 West to Exit 1A (Fort Duquesne Bridge-North Shore). Stay in the left lane on the Fort Duquesne Bridge, and get off at Exit 7A (North Shore). At the traffic signal at the bottom of the ramp, turn left onto Allegheny Ave. UPMC SportsWorks and Carnegie Science Center will be on your right, Heinz Field on your left.

Interstate 79 - From Erie, Points North

Follow Interstate 79 South to Interstate 279 South. Take Interstate 279 South to Exit 7A (North Shore). Stay straight through one street light, then move into the left lane. Ahead you will see a green overhead sign for Reedsdale Street. Drive under this sign. At the next traffic signal make a left onto Allegheny Avenue. UPMC SportsWorks and Carnegie Science Center will be on your right, Heinz Field on your left.

Interstate 79 - From Washington, Points South

Follow Interstate 79 North to Interstate 279 North. Take Interstate 279 North. Following the signs for North Shore, go through the Fort Pitt Tunnels, across the Fort Pitt Bridge, and across the Fort Duquesne Bridge, always staying in the far left lanes. At the end of the Fort Duquesne Bridge, take exit 7A (North Shore). At the end of the exit ramp, make a left at the light onto Allegheny Avenue. UPMC SportsWorks will be on your left, Carnegie Science Center on your right, and Heinz Field straight ahead.

Interstate 279 - From the Airport, Greentree, South Hills

Take Interstate 279 North. Following the signs for North Shore, go through the Fort Pitt Tunnels, across the Fort Pitt Bridge, and across the Fort Duquesne Bridge, always staying in the far left lanes. At the end of the Fort Duquesne Bridge, take exit 7A (North Shore). At the end of the exit ramp, make a left at the light onto Allegheny Avenue. Carnegie Science Center and UPMC SportsWorks will be on your right, and Heinz Field will be on your left.
Interstate 279 - From North Hills, Cranberry, Ross Township
Take Interstate 279 South. Get off at Exit 7A (North Shore). Stay straight through one street light, then move into the left lane. Ahead you will see a green overhead sign for Reedsdale Street. Drive under this sign. At the next traffic signal make a left onto Allegheny Avenue. UPMC SportsWorks will be on your left, Carnegie Science Center on your right, and Heinz Field straight ahead.

Interstate 376 - From Monroeville, Oakland, Braddock, Squirrel Hill

Take Interstate 376 West. Get off at Exit 1A (Fort Duquesne Bridge-North Shore). Stay in the left lane on the Fort Duquesne Bridge, and get off at Exit 7A (North Shore). At the traffic signal at the bottom of the ramp, turn left onto Allegheny Ave. UPMC SportsWorks and Carnegie Science Center will be on your right, Heinz Field on your left.

Route 380 - From Bigelow Blvd, Baum Blvd, East Liberty

Take PA Route 380, on Bigelow Boulevard, toward Downtown. Follow the overhead signs for Sixth Avenue. When you come to the intersection with Sixth Avenue (the USX Tower will be on the right and the Mellon Arena off to the left), make a right at the traffic signal. At the fifth traffic signal, Liberty Avenue, make a left. At the next traffic signal, Sixth Street, make a right. Go over the Sixth Street Bridge. At the second traffic signal after crossing over the bridge make a left. At the next traffic signal, North Shore Drive West, make a right. Go around the stadium staying in the center lane. Follow the overhead sign for Reedsdale Street. At the traffic signal (the corner of Reedsdale and Allegheny Ave.), turn left turn right into the CSC parking lot.

Directions to the David Lawrence Convention Center:

From the Airport

PA 60 S to US-30 E becomes I-279 N through the Ft. Pitt Tunnels and across the Ft. Pitt Bridge . Take Ft. Duquesne Blvd Exit 6C. Follow sign to Convention/Strip District on 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center located on the right.

From the East | PA Turnpike

I-76 W (PA Turnpike) to Exit 57 Pittsburgh. Take I-376 W to Exit 2B Blvd. of the Allies. Take I-579 N to Seventh Ave /Convention Center Exit. Take Seventh Ave. Turn right onto William Penn Way . William Penn Way becomes 10th St. Convention Center straight ahead.

 

From the West | PA Turnpike

I-76 E (PA Turnpike) to Exit 28 Cranberry. Follow signs to I-79 S to I-279 S across Ft. Duquesne Bridge to 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center located on the right.

From the North

I-79 S to I-279 S across Ft. Duquesne Bridge to 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center located on the right.

From the South

I-79 N to Exit 59 A Pittsburgh to I-279 N through Ft. Pitt Tunnels and across the Ft. Pitt Bridge. Take Ft. Duquesne Blvd Exit 6C. Follow sign to Convention/Strip District on 10th Street Bypass. Convention Center located on the right.

Directions to New Great Valley Bowling Center (From DLCC)

Head northeast on Fort Duquesne Blvd toward 10th St Bypass
Turn right at 10th St Bypass
Continue on 11th St

Directions to the Petersen Events Center at the University of Pittsburgh Campus:

From Pittsburgh International Airport

Take I-279 toward Pittsburgh. Pass through the Fort Pitt Tunnel, stay to the right, and bear right at the first ramp over the bridge onto I-376. Exit I-376 at the Oakland/Forbes Avenue Exit.  Turn left at the third light (McKee Place). Continue onto McKee until you reach the intersection with Forbes Avenue. Once at the intersection, determine which parking area you wish to park at and use the attached map for directions to determine how to get there from Forbes Avenue.

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike

Take the Pittsburgh/Monroeville Exit (Exit 57). Follow I-376 toward Pittsburgh. Take the Oakland Exit 3B. Proceed up the hill through the first traffic light. Continue on Bates Street and make the second left after the light onto McKee Place. Continue onto McKee until you reach the intersection with Forbes Avenue.  Once at the intersection, determine which parking area you wish to park at and use the attached map for directions to determine how to get there from Forbes Avenue.

From the North

Take I-79 South to I-279 South to I-579 (Veterans Bridge – Exit 8A). Exit at the Boulevard of the Allies (Exit 14) toward  Monroeville/Oakland. Continue on Boulevard of the Allies and turn left onto Halket Street beside Magee Hospital. Turn right onto Forbes Avenue. Continue on Forbes Avenue and use the attached map to select a parking area from Fobes Avenue.

OR, TO AVOID OAKLAND TRAFFIC:

Take I-79 South to I-279 South to I-579 (Veterans Bridge – Exit 8A). Take the 6th Avenue Exit and follow the signs for Mellon Arena. Turn left at Bigelow Boulevard. Continue on Bigelow Boulevard and turn right onto Herron Avenue. Herron turns into the Robinson Street Extension. Continue on Robinson Street Extension to access the Towerview and OC Parking lots.

From the South

Take I-70 North to I-279 North towards Pittsburgh. Pass through the Fort Pitt Tunnel, stay to the right, and bear right at the first ramp over the bridge into I-376. Exit I-376 at the Oakland/Forbes Avenue Exit. Turn left at the third light (McKee Place). Continue onto McKee until you reach the intersection with Forbes Avenue. Once at the intersection, determine which parking area you wish to park at and use the attached map for directions to determine how to get there from Forbes Avenue.

Directions to Pittsburgh National Golf Club (formerly Deer Run)

From Pittsburgh via Route 279

1. Take 279 North to 79 North
2. Take the Wexford exit and head East on Route 910
3. Proceed on Route 910, crossing over Route 8 and continuing East
4. Turn left onto Oak Road (Benke Motors)
5. Turn right onto Bairdford Road (at the Y)
6. Go past St. Victor's Church and turn left onto Monier Road
7. Continue straight at the stop sign until you come to Deer Run on your left

From Pittsburgh via Route 28

1. Take Route 28 North
2. Take the Harmar exit and head West on Route 910 towards Indianola
3. At the 2nd traffic light, turn right onto Saxonburg Boulevard
4. At the 1st stop sign, turn left onto Bairdford Road
5. Take the 1st right onto Monier Road
6. Continue straight at the stop sign until you come to Deer Run on your left

From Cranberry/Warrendale

1. Take the Red Belt East
2. Pass under Route 8 and continue straight for 2.8 miles
3. Make a right onto Monier Road and continue until you come to Deer Run on your right

From Wexford

1. Take the Route 910 East to Route 8
2. Proceed on Route 910, crossing over Route 8 and continuing East
3. Turn left onto Oak Road (Benke Motors)
4. Turn right onto Bairdford Road (at the Y)
5. Go past St. Victor's Church and turn left onto Monier Road
6. Continue straight at the stop sign until you come to Deer Run on your left

From Route 8 South

1. Take the Bakerstown exit (Red Belt)
2. At stop sign, go left, passing under Route 8
3. Continue straight for 2.8 miles on Bakerstown Road
4. Make a right onto Monier Road and continue until you come to Deer Run on your right

From Route 8 North

1. Bear right onto the Bakerstown exit (Red Belt)
2. At the 4-way stop sign, make a right onto Bakerstown Road
3. Go East for 2.8 miles
4. Make a right onto Monier Road and continue until you come to Deer Run on your right

Directions to Schenley Park:

From the North:

Take PA-28 S toward Pittsburgh. Merge onto I-579 S toward Liberty Bridge. Take I-376 E / Oakland / Monroeville exit. Stay straight to go onto Blvd of the Allies. At signs for Oakland/Phipps Conservatory, turn slight right onto Panther Hollow Road. Turn right onto Greenfield Road. Turn right onto Overlook Drive and follow it up to the Oval.

From the South:

Follow PA-837 N/Green Belt into Pittsburgh. Turn right onto West St./Blue Belt. Stay straight to go onto Beechwood Boulevard. Turn right onto Greenfield Bridge. Take a left at the end of the bridge to go onto Greenfield Road. Turn left onto Overlook  Drive.

From the East:

Follow I-376 W into Pittsburgh and take exit 5 toward Homestead/Squirrel Hill. Take ramp toward Greenfield. Turn slight right onto Beechwood Boulevard. Turn right onto Greenfield Bridge. Take a left at the end of the bridge to go onto Greenfield Road. Turn left onto Overlook Drive and follow it up to the Oval.

From the West:

Follow I-376 E and take exit 5 toward Greenfield. Turn slight right onto Beechwood Boulevard. Turn right onto Greenfield Bridge. Take a left at the end of the bridge to go onto Greenfield Road. Turn left onto Overlook Drive and follow it up to the Oval.

Directions to Soldiers and Sailors National Military Museum:

From Pennsylvania Turnpike

Take I-376 (west) to Oakland Exit, #3B. Up hill on Bates. Left on S. Bouquet.
Right on Forbes. Left on Bigelow Boulevard.

From I-79

Exit I-279 Pittsburgh to I-376 Oakland. Take I-376 to Oakland Exit to Forbes Avenue
Turn left on Bigelow Boulevard.

From the Airport

Follow Route 60 to I-279 Pittsburgh. Take I-376 to Oakland Exit to Forbes Avenue.
Turn left on Bigelow Boulevard.
